For the past few years our number of Special Event Stations have declined
somewhat due to lack of available operators in the main.
Historically we used to run a demonstration station at the Mabe Shundig,
The St Agnes Traction Engine Rally and the Redruth & District Model Flying
Club events whilst also mounting stations to take part with the Scouts and
Guides in their Jamboree on the air and Thinking Day on the Air events.
Our main special event is International Marconi Day and we are the organising
group for the whole 24Hour event with participants from around the globe
under our supervision.
Since 2004 we have also operated for three days each year at the Cornwall
VW Owners Club Jamboree. This is held over the Friday, Saturday and
Sunday of the August Bank Holiday weekend and is held at the Show Ground
in Stithians. We always have a good number of interested visitors to our
tent and manage to fly the flag for our hobby to good effect.
Our President, Norman G4USB is also the Chairman of the Cornwall Volkswagen
Owners Club so we are always well looked after and given a good location
with usable antenna tie off points. No sky hooks required!
In 2006 we shared the facilities if the Poldhu Amateur Radio Club following the loss
of our nomal premises. Many thanks to PARC for their hospitality. Since then
we have lost two of our helpers who were there on that occasion Les G0KSF
and Geoff M0GRC both having passed away in 2010

whats happing about the VW Event in August can’t remember the date
That’s easily answered. As ever it is the Friday,Saturday & Sun day of the
August Bank Holiday weekend.
As ever we have set aside space for the CRAC in the same position as in
previous years. Mike and family will be camping from Wednesday onwards
and would be grateful for any help available to set up the station.
Suggest contacting Mike for more details.
